Evacuate now: Malaysians near US Embassy in Doha warned

Embassy alert urges citizens to move out of the danger zone after threat of attack; residents told to stay vigilant and avoid the area

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysians living close to the United States (US) Embassy in Doha have been told to move to safer ground following warnings of a possible attack.

The Malaysian Embassy in Qatar revealed it was alerted to the threat targeting the US Embassy in Al Rayyan, Doha.

“All Malaysians residing within a 1.5 kilometre radius from the embassy are advised to seek shelter elsewhere,” the embassy announced in a notice posted on its official Facebook page Thursday.

While officials stressed that the situation in Qatar remains calm, Malaysians were urged to stay on high alert.

Meanwhile, the US Embassy confirmed that Qatar’s Ministry of Interior has begun evacuating residents near the compound as a precautionary measure.
