KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has praised reconciliation efforts spearheaded by non-governmental organisations (NGOs) representing the Malay and Indian communities, describing them as a testament to the people’s maturity in choosing peace over discord.

He welcomed the initiative, noting that it also strengthens the spirit of mutual respect among races.

“This is the true spirit and soul of Malaysia, a country that stands firmly on the values of kindness, togetherness and respect between the races.

“We must continue to preserve and embrace this togetherness as the foundation of the country’s strength,” he said in a statement today.

Anwar also extended his gratitude to all involved, including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), for contributing to the initiative’s success.

“Hopefully this effort will continue to unite us and serve as an example in strengthening national unity,” he added.

The reconciliation meeting, held yesterday under the Harmoni MADANI programme, brought together 30 NGO representatives from the Malay and Indian communities to find common ground and address the crisis faced by both groups in a constructive and amicable manner. – March 19, 2026
