KUALA LUMPUR – A suspended police officer has been arrested as part of a gang accused of carrying out a series of armed robberies targeting foreign residents, with losses totalling RM4.4 million.
Six men, aged between 31 and 51, were detained following a police operation on April 5 and are believed to be involved in three separate incidents in the Kepong area, where they allegedly impersonated police officers to break into victims’ homes.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the victims included two Chinese nationals and an Indonesian woman, aged between 29 and 52.
“The suspects disguised themselves as police officers and specifically targeted foreign residents,” he told reporters during a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur contingent police headquarters today.
“In one incident, a suspect threatened a victim with an object resembling a pistol.”
The robberies, which occurred between 5.30am and 7.30am on April 5, resulted in the theft of three vehicles, a Toyota Alphard, Rolls-Royce, and Bentley as well as a safe containing RM24,200, US$1,200 (RM 4,777), jewellery, and two gold bars.
Acting on intelligence, a team from the Sentul district criminal investigation department, in collaboration with the Kuala Lumpur contingent criminal investigation department, arrested three men at 8.45pm the same day.
These initial arrests led to the capture of three more suspects linked to the case.
Police also seized two pistols, five vehicles, RM13,056 in cash, foreign currencies, eight mobile phones, and two security passes.
Fadil revealed that the suspended officer, who has a prior drug-related record, acted as the gang’s coordinator.
“The firearms were supplied by two of the suspects who are licensed personal bodyguards,” he said.
All six men have been remanded for seven days from the date of arrest. A preliminary urine test revealed that one suspect tested positive for amphetamines. Investigations are ongoing under Sections 395, 397, and 170 of the Penal Code.
“This is a serious breach of public trust,” Fadil added.
“We will ensure that those who exploit their position and impersonate law enforcement to commit a crime are brought to justice.” – April 8, 2026
