PUTRAJAYA — Former Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli spent nine hours at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters here today to provide his statement to investigators probing a semiconductor deal with UK firm, ARM Ltd.
Rafizi, who is Pandan MP, had arrived at 9.31 am and only left the MACC building at 6.50pm, Bernama reports.
“I gave my full cooperation and the process was smooth, it was just lengthy.
“I have to come back tomorrow at 10am,” he was quoted saying in a New Straits Times report.
This morning, nearly 50 people had gathered outside MACC to support him, including PKR’s Subang MP Wong Chen, Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung, Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail, Wangsa Maju MP Zahir Hassan and Balik Pulau MP Bakthiar Wan Chik.
The investigation pertains to misuse of position or authority for gratification in the RM1.1 billion deal between the government and ARM Ltd, under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.
MACC senior investigation director Datuk Mohd Hafaz Nazar on Saturday said Rafizi would be summoned for his statement after 22 others had given statements, including ministers and senior officials across several government agencies.
Mohd Hafiz said the investigation started on Feb 13, 2025.
Rafizi’s former aide Chai Jin Shern, better known as James Chai, was also questioned for three consecutive days starting Tuesday last week.
It was reported that Malaysia had committed to the deal with ARM for a four-year partnership to lower barriers for Malaysian companies seeking access to the firm’s intellectual property and technology. – May 4, 2026
