KUALA LUMPUR — The government is continuing efforts to strengthen the welfare and future prospects of gig workers through a series of new initiatives focused on social protection, upskilling, and career development opportunities.
Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said among the measures introduced by the Human Resources Ministry (Kesuma) is the Economic Resilience Package (PACE), which carries an allocation of RM20 million aimed at improving the economic resilience of workers in the gig sector, Bernama reported.
“Selain itu, Program Kecerdasan Buatan (AI) MyMahir bernilai RM110 juta yang memberikan pendedahan kepada kemahiran berkaitan teknologi dan kecerdasan buatan membuktikan komitmen kerajaan dalam memperkukuh pekerja gig termasuk pemandu e-hailing dan penghantar p-hailing,” he said.
He said this during his speech at the Grab Partner Appreciation Ceremony, which brought together nearly 1,000 drivers and delivery riders from the Sungai Buloh parliamentary constituency today.
Ramanan said gig workers are also able to undergo technical training through the Advanced Technology College of the Manpower Department (ADTEC JTM), while benefiting from the MYFutureJobs platform by the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) to access broader employment and career advancement opportunities.
At the same time, he said an e-complaints portal for gig workers has also been introduced to provide easier access to information on employment rights, social protection, and complaint channels in a more systematic manner.
Ramanan said the development of the gig economy must be driven collectively by the government, platform providers, and workers themselves to ensure the ecosystem becomes more stable, inclusive, and sustainable in the long term.
During the event, he also presented tokens of appreciation to Grab partners in recognition of their dedication and contributions in helping facilitate the daily lives of the public.
