KUALA LUMPUR — The Aerotrain service at KL International Airport Terminal 1 will return to full 24-hour operations starting 12.00am on 1 June, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said.
The system, which underwent a total overhaul, has been fully assessed and verified through a structured process involving the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) and independent railway assessors.
Loke said the system also completed a comprehensive action plan which began in November last year and covered three structure stages: inspection and rectification works, system testing and validation, and trial operations.
“Endurance testing was conducted over 24-hour and 48-hour periods under both passenger and non-passenger conditions.
“Since January 2026, the Aerotrain has recorded 100% operational service availability,” Loke said in a statement today.
As for maintenance, Loke said daily engineering hours from 12.00 am to 5.00 am will be held during which time only one train will serve passengers, while the other undergoes routine inspection and maintenance.
This arrangement ensures that while the Aerotrain operates round the clock for passengers, essential engineering checks will continue daily to maintain safety and reliability.
“The ministry, through APAD, will continue to exercise regulatory oversight over the Aerotrain’s operations, while Malaysia Airports remains accountable for maintaining the service standards established under this plan,” Loke said.
Aerotrain operations have been limited with service at night suspended from 9pm to 7am since November 15, last year.
The entire service has had to undergo an overhaul due to aging systems that caused frequent breakdowns. – May 31, 2026
