KUALA LUMPUR – The Regent of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, said he maintains close oversight of the state administration to ensure that policies, projects and directives are properly carried out.
He said governance in Johor is closely monitored, adding that he routinely seeks direct explanations from Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and the state secretary whenever matters are left unresolved.
“If work is not done, you can ask the Menteri Besar, you can ask the state secretary,” he said.
“Sometimes even at three in the morning I call and ask why something has not been completed,” the Tunku Ismail said during the Orang Muda Johor programme in Muar yesterday.
He cautioned against any attempts to portray the Johor government as ineffective, stressing that he actively monitors its performance to ensure delivery of outcomes.
“I monitor my government. I make sure this government gets the job done,” he said.
The Regent also stressed that Johor does not need politics driven by rhetoric or empty promises, but leadership focused on delivery and implementation.
“I do not like promises or empty talk. I prefer execution. When there is a vision, it must be implemented.
“Vision without execution is merely a hallucination,” he said.
He added that the public should assess any government based on facts, performance, engagement on the ground and tangible results.
He further noted that while it is easy to criticise or make promises from the opposition, governing effectively requires capability, discipline and responsibility once a mandate is given.
“To find issues, to find faults and to be in opposition is easy.
“But when you are given the mandate to govern, not everyone is capable of administering,” he said. – June 21, 2026
