KUALA LUMPUR — The decision on whether to publish the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) will be discussed and decided at the Cabinet meeting tomorrow.
On Monday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said there had been some debate surrounding the matter but stressed that the issue would be resolved through the proper channels.
“Now there is some debate about Tabung Haji. I do not want to talk at length about it, but hopefully during the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, we will decide. There is a report, let people read it.
“If there is no wrongdoing, defend it… if there is wrongdoing, prosecute it; if the punishment is imprisonment, then go to prison. Our system determines that investigations are carried out by the investigating bodies, charges are brought by the Attorney-General, and sentences are decided by judges. That is not the Prime Minister’s responsibility,” he said.
Anwar was speaking at the Semarak Kenegaraan Programme held at Kem Syed Sirajuddin, Gemas.
Also present were Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari, Chief of Defence Force General Tan Sri Malek Razak Sulaiman and Chief of Army General Tan Sri Azhan Md Othman.
The Prime Minister said that, as the country’s leader, he must uphold honesty and ensure that all actions are taken in accordance with the Federal Constitution and established regulations.
Last Thursday, Anwar said the government was prepared to release the final RCI report on TH in the near future to allow the public to understand the findings of the inquiry into allegations involving the disposal of the agency’s strategic assets.
He said he would review the matter with the Chief Secretary to the Government, with a decision expected by Wednesday at the latest. – July 28, 2026
