KUALA LUMPUR – The outcome of the Negeri Sembilan state election will be decided by voters, not surveys or studies conducted by various parties, said DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke.
Loke, who is defending his Chennah state seat, said polling figures and statistics were based on different methodologies, but the final assessment would still come from the electorate.
“Surveys are only surveys. Ultimately, what matters most is the decision made by the people, not the results of surveys. That is what we are observing and waiting for,” he said, according to media reports.
He was speaking after casting his vote at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Kelpin in Negeri Sembilan today.
Loke was commenting on surveys by certain parties which suggested that the results of the Negeri Sembilan state election could be unfavourable for Pakatan Harapan (PH).
On voter turnout for the election, Loke said the pattern appeared to be almost similar to the previous state polls.
“Based on the reports I have received, the voter turnout percentage is more or less the same as the previous state election, with some areas recording higher turnout while others saw stronger voter attendance in the morning compared with before,” he said.
He said the trend was a positive sign, as voters were expected to come out and fulfil their responsibility, while expressing hope that turnout could reach 73% or higher.
A total of 36 state assembly seats are being contested in the election, involving 103 candidates.
PH is contesting all 36 seats, followed by Barisan Nasional (BN) with 25 candidates, Bersatu with 24 candidates and Perikatan Nasional (PN) with 11 candidates.
Also taking part in the contest are Parti Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia (Berjasa), Parti Orang Asli Malaysia (ASLI) and Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM), each fielding one candidate, along with four independent candidates. – August 1, 2026
