KUALA LUMPUR – Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for Jeram Padang, Manivanan Gowin, has filed a formal complaint with the Election Commission (EC) over allegations that Barisan Nasional (BN) campaign material was brought into a polling station during voting.
In his written complaint to EC assistant officer for N07 Jeram Padang, Nurshahira Shamsudin, Manivanan claimed he arrived at Sekolah Kebangsaan Rompin’s polling centre at about 2.20pm before entering Stream 5 at around 2.30pm.
He alleged that several voters entered the polling room carrying blue slips or papers, which were checked by EC officials before being returned along with their ballot papers.
Manivanan said the presence of the documents raised his suspicion after he observed election officials handling the blue papers.
“When I moved closer to take a better look, I found that the presiding officer had hidden the blue paper in a drawer beneath the table,” the PKR Central Leadership Council (MPP) member claimed.
He alleged that the presiding officer initially refused to show him the document when questioned, but later handed it over after he repeatedly sought an explanation.
The PKR leader further claimed that the blue paper contained the words “Vote for Barisan Nasional” along with the BN logo printed on both sides.
Manivanan said he recorded the incident as taking place at 2.45pm and requested that the serial number of the last ballot paper issued before the alleged incident be documented.
Following the complaint, he called for all votes issued at Stream 5 before 2.45pm to be invalidated or set aside pending further action, arguing that the move was necessary to protect the credibility of the election process.
“I hereby object to the voting process that took place at Stream 5 and request that the counting of all votes issued up to 2.45pm be cancelled or set aside, and/or that any further action deemed appropriate under Malaysian law be taken to ensure the integrity and transparency of the electoral process is preserved,” he said.
The EC had not issued any response to the allegations at the time of writing. – August 1, 2026
