KUALA LUMPUR – Nurul Izzah Anwar has announced her resignation as PKR deputy president, saying she is embarking on a “new chapter” in her life focused on service and further studies, while reaffirming her commitment to the party and its struggle.
In a media statement issued today, Nurul Izzah said the decision came after “long and careful consideration” and reflected her intention to continue serving the rakyat beyond any formal political office.
“After careful reflection, I have conveyed my intention to step down from my position as Deputy President of PKR. My commitment to serving the rakyat and our communities remains undiminished, and I intend to continue that service beyond the confines of any single office or title,” she said.
She described the move as the beginning of a new phase in her life, saying she would be devoting more time to further studies and commitments outside the political arena.
“This decision follows long and careful consideration. It marks a new chapter in my life, one grounded in service and devotion, as I turn towards further studies and commitments that lie beyond the political arena,” she added.
Despite relinquishing the deputy presidency, Nurul Izzah stressed that she would remain a PKR member and continue supporting the party under the leadership of Prime Minister and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.
“I remain a member of PKR and pledge my full support to the party’s continuing struggle for a better Malaysia under the leadership of YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, alongside the party leadership and its grassroots,” she said.
She also expressed confidence that Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who will assume the deputy president’s responsibilities on an interim basis, together with PKR election director Amirudin Shari, would continue leading the party effectively.
“I have full confidence that Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, as Deputy President, and Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, as Election Director, will carry these responsibilities forward with wisdom, integrity and dedication, remaining faithful to the hopes and aspirations of the people.
“I pray that they are granted strength and ease in the trust now placed upon them,” she said.
Nurul Izzah also thanked PKR members, leaders and supporters for their trust and sacrifices throughout her political journey.
“To the members of PKR, its leaders at every level, my comrades-in-arms, and all who have walked this path with me, I offer my deepest gratitude for the trust, counsel, prayers and sacrifices you have given over the years,” she said.
She concluded by saying she looked forward to meeting party members at the PKR National Congress, scheduled for Aug 14 and 15. – August 6, 2026
