KUALA LUMPUR — The operator of a theme park in Subang Jaya must come clean on an incident involving its rollercoaster that left 10 people injured, said Subang Umno and Barisan Nasional chief Datuk Dr Armand Azha Abu Hanifah.
While police have launched an investigation, the operator, who has still not issued any statement since the incident on August 22, must provide an official explanation on what led to the incident, as well as the immediate measures taken to assist those affected, Armand Azha said.
“Several recordings of the incident have gone viral on social media. At the same time, there is speculation and accusations about the cause of the incident and how it was handled. We don’t want to make unverified accusations, yet, the questions that the public has raised ought to be answered openly based on facts and investigation findings,” he said in a statement on Facebook.
Armand Azha’s statement comes as social media users question why the name of the theme park has not been revealed in the media.
Subang Jaya police, who issued a statement on the incident yesterday, also did not name the theme park.
Armand Azha said claims being made by social media users of attempted “cover ups” or to censor information about the incident should also be investigated.
“If those allegations are untrue, explain. If they are true, action must be taken. We don’t want a culture of ‘keep quiet, answer late’ in issues that involve public safety,” he said, adding that there was no agenda to tarnish the reputation of any company but transparency was in the interest of public safety.
Armand Azha also called for an independent probe into the ride’s safety and maintenance.This would include records on technical inspections and compliance with operating procedures.
“The authorities must ensure that the ride involved does not resume operations until its safety has been fully verified,” he added.
Armand said firm action must be taken against any party found to have been negligent or to have breached safety procedures, regardless of its status or position.
Yesterday, Subang Jaya police chief ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said 10 out of 22 people who rode the rollercoaster sustained minor injuries in an incident at the theme park on Saturday night. The injured were treated at medical facilities around Subang Jaya.
Wan Azlan urged those with information to contact the police, promising anonymity to those who come forward. – August 25, 2026
