KUALA LUMPUR – AirAsia has reported a clean sweep in a fleet-wide drug screening exercise, confirming zero positive results across its entire active operating roster.
The targeted audit—covering all pilots and cabin crew across AirAsia Malaysia and long-haul arm AirAsia X Malaysia—returns a 100 percent pass rate under the low-cost carrier’s mandatory fit-to-fly protocols.
AirAsia Group (formerly AirAsia X Bhd) released the results today to reinforce operational integrity amid nationwide regulatory pressure on local air carriers.
“Safety and security are fundamental to everything we do at AirAsia, and we have zero tolerance for drug use,” said Group Chief Operations Officer Captain Suresh Bangah.
Bangah emphasized that rigorous drug and alcohol testing remains a non-negotiable benchmark to ensure all active personnel fulfill regulatory standards before taking flight.
Industry high alert
The fleet-wide testing comes on the heels of intense scrutiny facing Malaysia’s aviation sector. Authorities recently issued a mandatory 30-day drug testing deadline across all Malaysian airlines following high-profile arrests of aviation crew.
The industry crackdown was triggered after a Malaysia Airlines pilot was detained in Jakarta for allegedly smuggling 26kg of ecstasy and testing positive for narcotics, followed by subsequent arrests of linked flight personnel by local police.
