KUALA LUMPUR — A mobile police station will be stationed near former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s official residence in Langgak Duta from tomorrow to facilitate security arrangements should he be transferred from prison to the residence.
Sentul district police chief ACP Anuar Bakri Abdul Salam said the mobile police station would be deployed at the location from 7am tomorrow, Bernama reported.
“The mobile police station is not for the purpose of providing 24-hour security for Datuk Seri Najib. It is to provide security during his return process, including for local and foreign media, neighbours, and to prevent traffic congestion and the presence of supporters,” he said when contacted today.
However, Anuar Bakri said police had yet to receive official confirmation that the Langgak Duta residence would be the location where Najib serves his sentence under house arrest.
“I cannot confirm it because I have not received any information either, but one of Datuk Seri Najib’s official residences is under my jurisdiction. There is a possibility that other residences belonging to him are also being considered,” he said.
On the agency responsible for monitoring Najib should he serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest, Anuar Bakri said the duty would fall under the Malaysian Prisons Department rather than the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
He said four Prisons Department officers had visited the residence yesterday to conduct an inspection and assessment.
“The responsibility is under the Prisons Department because four prison officers came yesterday to conduct an inspection and assessment. PDRM will only facilitate Datuk Seri Najib’s movement and, at the same time, ensure the safety of the media,” he said.
Anuar Bakri added that police deployment during the process was expected to involve one supervisor and two personnel, supported by a mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) unit.
Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar was reported yesterday as saying that the standard operating procedures for Najib’s house arrest would cover matters including visits, security arrangements and monitoring of the former prime minister’s movements once the relevant official letter was received.
On Friday, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, consented to a conditional pardon allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to the payment of a RM50 million fine.
The Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department said the decision was made at the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya, held at Istana Negara.
Najib has been serving his prison sentence at Kajang Prison since Aug 23, 2022, after being convicted in the SRC International case. – September 20, 2026
