KUALA LUMPUR — No discussions have taken place between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) on possible cooperation, said PH communications director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.
He said the country’s current political dynamics could result in various realignments, depending on the political landscape and circumstances in individual states, Bernama reported.
“We know that each state has its own political uniqueness. So, it is not impossible that such dynamics could also emerge within Pakatan Harapan (PH),” he told reporters after officiating the Communications Ministry’s Kampung Angkat MADANI 2025 initiative at Surau Kampung Tebat Kering in Negeri Sembilan today.
Fahmi was responding to questions on the possibility of political cooperation between PH and Bersatu.
His comments came a day after Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the party would not contest the 16th General Election (GE16) on its own, but would instead be part of a political coalition.
Also present at the event were Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah, Kuala Pilah District Council president Nawal Mohamed Amin, Bernama deputy editor-in-chief (News Services) Mohd Shukri Ishak, and senior management from the ministry and its agencies.
In a separate development, Fahmi, who is also Communications Minister, said the decision to grant a conditional pardon to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was made under Article 42 of the Federal Constitution and fell within the powers of the King.
“On the government’s side, PH itself issued a statement last week. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh, who is responsible for representing the government on the Pardons Board, have also issued statements.
“The decision to grant a conditional pardon was made by His Majesty,” he said.
His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, on Friday granted Najib a conditional pardon, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to the payment of a RM50 million fine.
The Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) of the Prime Minister’s Department said the decision was made during the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya, held at Istana Negara on Friday. – September 20, 2026
