KUALA LUMPUR – Former natural resources and environmental sustainability minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad spent more than three hours giving his statement to the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) today in connection with an ongoing khalwat (close proximity) investigation involving him.
The former Setiawangsa MP was seen arriving at the Jais headquarters in Shah Alam at about 9.15 am before exiting at 11.30 am, returning at noon to resume the recording session.
His syarie counsel, Muhammad Amirul Ashraf A Ghani, confirmed that Nik Nazmi was present to assist and complete investigations under Section 29E of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Selangor) Enactment 1995.
“He was present for more than three hours giving his statement to the investigating officer. At this stage, it is an ongoing probe; statements have been provided, and we will now await feedback from the Selangor Syariah Prosecution Department on whether he will be formally charged,” Muhammad Amirul was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia.
Nik Nazmi left the Bangunan Sultan Idris Shah complex at around 1.30 pm via a rear exit in a private vehicle, declining to speak to waiting reporters.
Nik Nazmi had previously admitted to being detained by religious enforcement officers alongside a non-mahram individual in an enclosed premise in Petaling Jaya on 15 October.
Following the incident, he was placed on a three-month suspension from all official activities within Parti Bersama, effective until 19 January 2027. – October 27, 2026
