Shah Alam flash floods: NKVE, ELITE and Guthrie Expressways shut down

Highway authorities announce full lane closures, toll diversions, and ramp shutdowns across the Klang Valley as overnight downpours inundate major arteries

9:11 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Relentless overnight rain triggered severe flash floods across multiple key roads in Shah Alam, forcing the early morning shutdown of major stretches along the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), the North-South Expressway Central Link (ELITE), and the Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE).

Highway concessionaire PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) announced on X that flash floods submerged Kilometer 9.1 of the NKVE between Shah Alam and Subang at 4.07 am.

The flooding blocked all lanes in both directions, prompting traffic from Bukit Raja heading northbound to be diverted to Setia Alam, while southbound motorists from Subang were redirected to the ELITE highway.

Earlier, at 3.20 am, PLUS confirmed that all lanes approaching the Shah Alam Toll Plaza entrance were closed due to rising waters, urging road users to utilize alternative routes.

The situation deteriorated further by 5.30 am, when PLUS reported the closure of all lanes at the Shah Alam Interchange on the ELITE expressway between Seafield and Setia Alam. According to the update, traffic heading from Seafield toward Shah Alam was temporarily diverted to the Shah Alam Toll Plaza.

Meanwhile, PROLINTAS GCE took to X to alert motorists that flash floods inundated the NKVE interchange at 5.42 am.

The concessionaire confirmed that Ramp B, Ramp C, and Ramp D were shut entirely in the wake of the incident.

Motorists have been strongly advised to follow the directions of on-ground traffic personnel and seek alternative detours. – November 4, 2026
