No poster boy yet: Perikatan keeps Selangor MB candidate under wraps

State PAS liaison secretary confirms decision to be revealed after election victory

SHAH ALAM – The Selangor menteri besar candidate from Perikatan Nasional (PN) will only be negotiated after the coalition emerges victorious in the upcoming state polls, said Selangor PAS liaison secretary Roslan Shahir Mohd Shahir.

He said the coalition did not want to decide the matter “prematurely”, although it has a line-up of candidates capable of assuming the role.

“Let us win; let us be given the mandate (first),” he told a press conference at the coalition’s war room today.

“Then, we will decide the candidates who are eligible (for the role),”

This comes after speculation that PN information chief Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali will be the coalition’s poster boy for the state polls following his candidacy in the Hulu Kelang seat.

Roslan also said there are several policies that caretaker Selangor menteri besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari’s administration has not implemented properly, and PN plans to have them reviewed.

Meanwhile, Roslan assured that all candidates that PN fielded for the polls have a clean track record and have integrity, as none are a part of any court or prison cluster.

He added that the candidates have a combination of professional backgrounds and experience, as some have had previous stints administering the state.

With PN having limited funding for the polls, Roslan said the coalition’s strong commitment and spirit trump the financial pressure it faces.

“Currently, we are definitely on a shoestring budget. But we believe it is not important,” he said.

“We want Selangorians to know that we are contesting with our own funds against a party that has a lot of resources.” – July 31, 2023
