Zubir Ahmad sworn in as Kedah speaker

ALOR SETAR – Langkawi PAS chief Zubir Ahmad has been sworn in as speaker for the Kedah Legislative Assembly at Wisma Darul Aman here today.

Zubir was proposed by Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor (Jeneri-PN) and seconded by Datuk Siti Ashah Ghazali (Merbau Pulas-PN).

According to state secretary Mohamad Azlee Ahmad, there was only one candidate presented for state speaker.

“…as there is only one candidate submitted and under Regulation 4(5) of the Kedah Assembly Regulations, I therefore declare YB Encik Zubir bin Ahmad as Speaker of the 15th Kedah State Legislative Assembly,” he was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, after the swearing-in ceremony by all 36 assemblymen of the Kedah assembly, Abdul Razak Khamis (Sg Tiang-PN) was appointed deputy speaker after being proposed by Sanusi and seconded by Mansor Zakaria (Kuala Ketil-PN).

The Kedah assembly later adjourned sine die. – September 25, 2023
