KUALA LUMPUR – J-pop group Atarashii Gakko! has announced the dates for its first-ever world tour, which includes a leg in Malaysia’s capital.

On X, the group shared a flyer of all the venues involved in its WORLD TOUR PT.1, with the Kuala Lumpur stop taking place at Zepp KL on June 21, 2024.

The European leg of the tour will kick off at the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona, Spain on June 1, and end in Amsterdam on June 12.

“HELLO WORLD! We are going on our 1st ever WORLD TOUR starting in Europe and Asia. Come say HELLO! Ticket sales start at 10am Local on March 22!” the group said on X.

The Kuala Lumpur stop will be the second destination for the band after it performs in Seoul, South Korea on June 19. Other Asian countries on the tour include Thailand, Hong Kong and Singapore.

The band indicated that more dates would be announced soon.

Tickets for the show in Malaysia have yet to be announced at press time.

Formed in 2015, Atarashii Gakko! is jointly managed by Asobisystem, Twin Planet and TV Asahi Music.

The group made its Japanese debut in June 2017 under Victor Entertainment with the single Dokubana, while its worldwide debut took place in January 2021 under 88rising with the single NAINAINAI.

Translated as “new school leaders” in Japanese, Atarashii Gakko! takes a departure from the conventional girl group aesthetic and is known for donning sailor uniforms with long skirts and high socks.

Unlike typical hyperpop groups, Atarashii Gakko! incorporates contemporary J-pop with elements of rap, punk and Showa-era kayokyoku.

The group is also known for self-crafted choreography, which seamlessly integrates street dance, heavy-metal headbanging and the traditional Japanese butoh dance, according to Time Out. – March 19, 2024
