KUALA LUMPUR – The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) is currently investigating a brawl involving two teams in a Suparimau League match.

Speaking to Scoop, Cameron Ng, the head of FAM’s grassroots unit, said that the footballing body was aware of the incident and was in the process of reviewing reports received on it before taking any action against those involved.

“We are examining the matter. We need to be fair to all parties, so we will thoroughly review the reports to gain a clear understanding of the issue before determining any repercussions for those involved in the brawl,” said Cameron.

A recent game in the Suparimau League turned ugly as players from both sides were observed fighting and exchanging slurs in the middle of the match.

A 45-second video posted by @pengadilbola on X, formerly Twitter, also showed that the referees and match officials were unable to control the escalating situation, with players chasing each other and engaging in physical altercations.

Several people commented on the post, urging FAM to take action against the players since the national grassroots league falls under its jurisdiction.

With more than 80 competitions across 11 districts in Malaysia, the Suparimau League, sanctioned by FAM, is a series of youth football leagues for individuals aged 5 to 17.

Since January 2022, the league has provided an inclusive platform for over 14,000 aspiring young footballers.

The 44-year-old Cameron has been leading FAM’s grassroots unit since he assumed the role in 2020.

Cameron was also recently appointed as head coach of the national under-20 women’s team. – November 6, 2023
