KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s representatives to the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang M5 World Championships are geared up, but have contrasting targets, as HomeBois have set its sights high while Team SMG aims to improve their previous performance.

HomeBois owner Nureddy ‘DaddyHood’ Nursal expressed confidence in his team’s potential to secure a top-three finish, drawing optimism from their successful outings in international tournaments this year.

With three members contributing to Malaysia’s silver medal at the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games, Nureddy believes his team will continue that momentum.

“Since January, our target has been to qualify for the M5 World Championships, and we have achieved it.

“To be honest we don’t feel any pressure because my charges are confident of their abilities.

“We just came back from the MPL Invitational and there you could see the two strongest regions were Malaysia and the Philippines.

“We believe the M5 competition is easier as there are not many giants and the other competitors also see us as a team that can challenge for the title,” the 33-year-old told reporters after the send-off event for the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang M5 World Championship at Parliament’s multipurpose hall here, today.

On the other hand, Team SMG manager Lai ‘Benny’ Mun Pin aims for improvement over their last appearance at the M3 World Championships in 2021.

At the tournament, Team SMG was knocked out in the first round of the playoffs in the lower bracket, falling 2-0 to Onic Esports from Indonesia for a 16th-place finish.

“We are working on fixing our previous issues. We will try to provide the right support for our players to achieve the best results.

“At the world championships, we will take it one match at a time,” Mun Pin stated.

Team SMG booked their spot at the M5 World Championships by winning a wildcard slot and will take on M4 finalist Blacklist International from The Philippines in their first match.

Mun Pin admitted to the stress of securing the wildcard slot but affirms that heading into the M5 World Championships, the team feels no pressure and is prepared to showcase their best abilities. – November 27, 2023
