KUALA LUMPUR – Having organised the Lekas Highway Ride for eight editions, RHB Banking Group now partners with West Coast Expressway Sdn Bhd (WCE) to run the inaugural RHB WCE Century Ride, which will be held on May 19.

According to RHB group managing director and group chief executive officer Mohd Rashid Mohamad, the Century Ride is part of the group’s continued commitment to promoting a healthier lifestyle, fostering community connections, and supporting local businesses.

“We believe that cycling is not only a sport but a way to bring people of all ages together.

“The Century Ride is meant to cater to everyone – from professional cyclists to families and friends looking for a fun ride. There will also be a host of on-ground, family-friendly activities and entertainment lined up.

“The RHB WCE Century Ride is an extension of the RHB Lekas Highway Ride and is part of our RHB Rides ecosystem that carries the theme ‘Ride for Good’,” he said.

WCE Holdings Bhd chief executive officer and managing director of West Coast Expressway

Sdn Bhd, Lyndon Alfred Felix expects 3,000 participants to take part in the event.

“Of course, that number will depend on the response we get when the registration opens tomorrow and we are willing to be flexible with that.

“Safety won’t be an issue at all. We need the support of the police, the local councils, and the authorities. In fact, we organised a similar race a couple of years ago.

“So we have experience of running a race taking into consideration safety and security concerns, so we don’t see that will be an issue,” he said.

There will be four distances offered for the race for varying levels of cyclists – 160km, 90km, 28km and a 14km VIP ride – which is by invitation only.

Each distance will have a men’s and women’s category with the age limits ranging from 17 to 45 years of age. The 28km fun ride age limit is from 12 years old and above.

Registrations will open tomorrow and close on March 17. Interested participants may head over to the official website to register, www.wcecenturyride.com.

The normal registration fee is RM200 for the 160km distance, RM150 for the 90km distance, and RM70 for the 28km fun ride.

RHB credit and debit card holders can enjoy discounts until February 6. For RHB non-cardholders, there is an early bird discount until the same date.

The race will start and end at Lekir Toll Plaza in Perak. – January 23, 2024
