Seven out of 11 district members expressed their frustration, with some members consistently excluded from meetings

KUALA LUMPUR – The Perak Hockey Association (PHA) is embroiled in turmoil following allegations of an unauthorised committee meeting held without the knowledge of its district members.

According to sources, seven out of the 11 district members have expressed their frustration and are calling for the association’s annual general meeting to be reconvened in response to the alleged illegitimate meeting.

Speaking to Scoop, PHA vice president Khairul Aufa Mohamed Yusof voiced his concerns, stating the consistent exclusion of certain members from committee meetings, denying them the opportunity to contribute to the association’s decisions.

“Sometimes I wonder if our president Sayuti Samat even bothers to hear our voices and our suggestions. Anytime there was a committee meeting, we were sidelined.

“This is not the first time this has happened, as it occurs all the time. We have all been elected to do our jobs as a team, and it’s not right for those above us to dictate what we should do without consulting us first.

“We have already lodged an official complaint to the Sports Commissioner’s Office on this matter, and we hope there will be a change in the association in the days to come.

“If things continue like this, we may have to remove ourselves from the current association and request that the annual general meeting be held again,” said Khairul.

Joining Khairul in his concerns are representatives from seven district members, including the Kinta Hockey Association, Hilir Perak Hockey Association, Bagan Datuk Hockey Association, Hulu Perak Hockey Association, Kampar Hockey Association, Manjung Hockey Association, and Mualim Hockey Association.

Khairul added the district members are considering distancing themselves from PHA and are advocating for the reconvening of the annual general meeting to address the issue at hand.

Under the leadership of president Sayuti Samat, PHA clinched the Tun Abdul Razak Cup thrice consecutively in 2020, 2021, and 2022.

Additionally, Ipoh has been selected as the host city for the upcoming national hockey team’s participation in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, scheduled for May 4-11.

Scoop will be reaching out to Sports Commissioner Suhardi Alias to inquire about the actions being considered in response to the complaints raised by PHA’s district members. – February 25, 2024
