KUALA LUMPUR – The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has praised Malaysia for its hospitality and urged the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) to host more international tournaments in the coming years.
MHC president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal said that the FIH is planning to designate the Bukit Jalil National Hockey Stadium as the venue to host the Hockey World Cup qualifiers, scheduled to take place early next year.
For now, the FIH has granted MHC the rights to host the Nations Cup, which will be held at the Bukit Jalil National Hockey Stadium from June 15 to 21.
Malaysia are placed in Pool B alongside Pakistan, New Zealand, and Japan, while Pool A features France, South Korea, South Africa, and Wales.
“When we hosted the Junior World Cup in 2023, the FIH praised our organisational capabilities and has continuously encouraged us to host more tournaments.
“We’re looking to leverage this opportunity to align with Visit Malaysia 2026 and showcase our nation on the global stage.
“In addition, we are currently bidding to host the World Cup qualifiers based on FIH’s suggestion, as well as several other prestigious tournaments.
“Discussions with FIH are ongoing, and we’re committed to bringing more world-class hockey events to our shores,” said Subahan during a press conference at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium earlier today.
At the same time, Subahan revealed Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) as the main sponsor for the Nations Cup.
Subahan added that there will be some announcements in the coming weeks to introduce the official sponsors and their contributions to the tournament.
“We are pleased to announce that TNB is the main sponsor for this year’s Nations Cup.
“Apart from TNB, several other corporations such as Mazda and Bank Islam have also come on board to sponsor the tournament.
“Other sponsors and the details of their contributions will be revealed in the next few weeks,” Subahan added.
It is understood that there will be no entry fee for the Nations Cup. – May 24, 2025
