KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia delivered its second gold medal in cricket at the South East Asian Games after a commanding seven-wicket victory over Indonesia in the men’s T10 final today.
The win capped an impressive and unbeaten campaign by the national men’s team, who displayed consistency, discipline and composure throughout the tournament to emerge clear winners of the competition.
Malaysia Cricket President Mahinda Vallipuram praised the players’ commitment and collective effort in achieving the gold-medal target.
“The team was extremely committed and focused on delivering gold medals for the country. We are very proud of the way the players went about their task throughout the competition. It was truly a team effort, with every player contributing when it mattered,” he said.
Vallipuram also singled out the batting performances at the top of the order, highlighting Ahmad Faiz’s impact during the campaign.
“It was great to see Ahmad Faiz scoring 50 runs in consecutive matches, setting the tone at the top of the order,” he added.
Meanwhile, team captain Syed Aziz said unity, discipline and preparation were key to the team’s success, noting that every player understood and executed their role from the opening match to the final.
“This gold medal means a lot to us. Every player understood their role and backed one another from the first match to the final. We stayed disciplined, trusted our plans, and played as one unit for Malaysia,” he said.
At the same time, Vallipuram also expressed appreciation for the continued institutional support behind the team’s success.
“We would like to thank the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), and the National Sports Council (MSN) for their unwavering support. Their backing has been instrumental in enabling our teams to prepare and perform at the highest level,” he said.
Attention now shifts to the women’s team, who will take the field tomorrow in the T20 semi-finals, as Malaysian cricket continues its strong showing at the Games. – December 17, 2025
