KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysian badminton player Ong Yew Sin and former Japanese shuttler Aya Ohori are officially married, tying the knot in a quiet civil ceremony at the National Registration Department (JPN) in Melaka on Thursday.
The union, which brought together two stars from the international badminton scene, was witnessed by close family members and solemnised before Assistant Registrar Nur Fatehah Razali.
JPN Melaka, in a brief statement, said it was honoured to be part of the couple’s special day and extended best wishes to the newlyweds.
Taking to Instagram to share her joy, Ohori posted a photo of the pair and wrote: “Officially off the market. May we grow old together and love each other more and more every day. Thanks, everyone, for the wishes and support.”
Their wedding comes three months after the couple announced their engagement in March — a love story that captured the hearts of fans across Asia and beyond. At the time, Yew Sin posted a photo of his proposal with the caption: “Our forever starts today.”
He also reflected on their relationship, saying: “Different nationalities, different cultures and different living styles. We’ve learned to adapt and accept each other’s lifestyles, and understand each other’s cultures throughout the years… (we still quarrel always).”
Yew Sin, 30, is currently ranked 31st in the world in men’s doubles with partner Teo Ee Yi and is best known for clinching a bronze medal at the 2021 World Championships.
Ohori, 28, announced her retirement from professional badminton earlier this year. She had a strong run in her final season, winning the Thailand Masters and Australian Open in 2024.
She also took bronze at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games and played a key role in Japan’s runner-up finish at the 2020 Uber Cup in Denmark.
