KUALA LUMPUR — The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has defended its handling of the RM15 million government allocation, stressing that all spending was in line with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the authorities.
Speaking to Scoop, FAM secretary-general Datuk Noor Azman Rahman said the association has been transparent in reporting its use of the funds, with detailed expenditure statements submitted regularly to the relevant ministries.
“For your information, expenditure statements are sent to the Ministry of Finance every three months,” said Noor Azman when contacted.
“At the same time, we submit monthly reports to the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) and the National Sports Council. KBS is responsible for monitoring spending according to the approvals that have been set,” he said.
His clarification came in response to a recent report published by a local news portal questioning the management of the funds.
The allocation, announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on September 3 last year, was part of the government’s commitment to strengthen the national football team, covering players’ welfare, training, and management expenses.
Noor Azman emphasised that the RM15 million had been fully utilised for the national squad and accounted for in official reports.
“Every penny of the government’s allocation has been recorded in our expenditure statements and follows all government SOPs.
“We do not use the funds arbitrarily – every sen is for the national team, not the association,” he stressed. — September 9, 2025
