KUALA LUMPUR – Former Harimau Malaya head coach Kim Pan-gon has returned to Malaysian football, this time taking charge as the new head coach of Selangor FC.
The club confirmed the development in a statement today.
Pan-gon’s appointment sees interim coach Christophe Gamel promoted to the role of Selangor FC Technical Director, also effective immediately.
“Armed with extensive experience and an impressive track record, the club believes Kim Pan-gon will successfully shoulder the responsibilities of leading the Red Giants’ first team and steer Selangor FC to greater heights,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, Christophe Gamel’s role as technical director will focus primarily on the development of coaches and young players, ranging from the Under-23 squad to grassroots levels within Selangor FC.
Selangor FC wished both Pan-gon and Christophe Gamel success in their respective roles.
Pan-gon faces a challenging mission, particularly in the Super League, where the team will aim to secure a spot in next season’s Asian competitions and pursue a 34th Malaysia Cup triumph.
In addition, the Red Giants remain in contention for this season’s Asean Club Championship (ACC).
Earlier, the 56-year-old South Korean was linked with a move to Selangor, with reports suggesting talks between him and the club had been progressing before today’s official appointment. – January 5, 2026
