KUALA LUMPUR – The Road to Gold (RTG) programme will proceed as planned, with no structural changes or revisions to its framework, as Malaysia intensifies efforts to secure its first-ever gold medal at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari said there have been no reshuffles or adjustments to the initiative so far, and all scheduled activities will continue according to plan.
“At this stage, there are no changes to RTG. We will continue to work closely and engage in discussions to ensure the programme runs smoothly and effectively.
“Our priority is to make sure the targets we have set are achieved.
“Should there be any developments in the near future, I will issue a statement,” he told reporters after launching the My Athlete Centre and witnessing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MACE Partners at Pavilion MSN here today.
Dr Taufiq added that a meeting with the RTG committee will be convened soon to further outline the programme’s direction and strategic planning.
The government has allocated RM12 million for the implementation of RTG in 2026.
The RTG programme serves as a top-up initiative to the existing Podium Programme, providing Malaysia’s elite athletes with additional support to enhance their chances of winning medals at the Olympics and other major competitions.
Athletes under RTG receive sports science expertise, support services, and a RM3,000 monthly allowance.
Meanwhile, the minister also officiated the opening of the My Athlete Centre, a RM500,000 athlete welfare and wellbeing hub designed as a modern recreational space.
The facility aims to help athletes manage stress following intensive training sessions.
“The My Athlete Centre is a space where our athletes can relax, gather and unwind after training. We want to ensure they are able to manage pressure after enduring long and demanding sessions,” he said. – February 26, 2026
