KUALA LUMPUR – Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has congratulated Datuk Ab Ghani Hassan following his election as the ninth president of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) today.
Tunku Ismail conveyed his congratulations in a post on X following FAM’s extraordinary congress and executive committee elections, which concluded at noon.
“Congratulations to Ab Ghani and the new FAM leadership, who have received a clear mandate from the delegates to lead Malaysian football,” said Tunku Ismail.
Ab Ghani secured 20 votes to defeat Selangor Football Association (FAS) deputy president Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar, who received five votes.
The outgoing Malaysian Football League (MFL) president will serve the remainder of the 2025–2029 term with the newly elected FAM leadership before stepping down from his MFL position to focus on his responsibilities as FAM president.
Ab Ghani will be assisted by Datuk Seri Rosmadi Ismail and Datuk Saaran Nadarajah, who were elected as vice-president 1 and vice-president 3, respectively.
The vice-president 2 position, which is reserved for the MFL president, will subsequently be filled by another individual after Ab Ghani expressed his intention to relinquish his position as MFL president and focus on leading FAM.
Meanwhile, Mohd Azizudin Mohd Shariff, Datuk Azhar Jamaluddin and Datuk Alijus Sipil were elected to the three Football Association (FA) representatives’ seats on the FAM executive committee (Exco).
Datuk Kamarudin Hassan and Datuk Syed Mahadi Syed Hassan secured the two football club (FC) representatives’ seats.
