Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik withdraw from French Open

No reason was given, but the pair have had an intense schedule including winning the Denmark Open three days ago

KUALA LUMPUR – National men’s doubles pair, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, have pulled out from the French Open, the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) announced today.

The former world champions had just ended their World Tour title drought after winning the Denmark Open three days ago.

They were slated to take on the Indonesian pair, Leo Rolly Carnando-Daniel Marthin, at the Glaz Arena in Rennes, France.

The Malaysian pair had won six out of their nine previous meetings against the world number 13 duo.

No reason was given for the withdrawal, but the pair have had a grueling schedule after winning bronze at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games earlier this month.

They had participated in the Arctic Open, in which they suffered a first-round defeat to compatriots Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun, before heading to Denmark to win their first World Tour title.

The country’s hopes in the men’s doubles will be carried by Wei Chong and Kai Wun, who will take on Rasmus Kjaer-Frederik Sogaard from Denmark, later today. – October 25, 2023
