The government has been advised to study the implementation of taxes, including the new rate of service tax, that might have a direct impact on Malaysians.
The government will prioritise improving the current tax system before deciding whether to reintroduce new taxes such as the goods and services tax, said Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.
The government is not disputing the goods and services tax, either in terms of its strengths or weaknesses, but rather the timing to implement it, said Deputy Finance Minister II Steven Sim Chee Keong.
