I’m not on TikTok: Dr Musa Nordin alleges fake account spreads slander

KUALA LUMPUR – Viva Palestina Malaysia (VPM) chairman Datuk Dr Musa Mohd Nordin lodged a police report on Thursday over an alleged fake TikTok account with his name.

In a tweet last night, he shared a copy of the police report, saying that he has been defamed by the content put up by the account.

“I have never created a TikTok account. And two other TikTok accounts have also spread the same fake news shared by the account in my name. I am lodging a police report for personal reasons as well as for the sake of personal and national reputation,” according to the report.

“I have been defamed through fake social media accounts impersonating me by spreading lies to the extent of jeopardising national security. I have made a police report with the best interest of Malaysia in mind,” he added in a tweet.

He had lodged the report on Thursday night at the Damansara police station.

Dr Musa was in the headlines last month following public backlash over some of his orders issued to the Freedom for Palestine rally attendees.

He had told Scoop that the poster of Netanyahu was considered “provocative” by the rally’s security team, leading to Dr Musa informing the man that if he insists on holding the placard up, “he can start his own rally”.

He also said that attendees who insisted on chanting the takbir were people who can be “quite conservative and extremist”, saying: “I think they come from a background of conservatism (where the Israel-Palestine war) is perceived as being all about Muslims and the Jewish (community).

“I did not make any mention of stopping takbir chants, but the ground rules (of the rally) were very clear from the start. They think they can express their Islamism, but VPM is respectful of other religious groups.”

The Freedom for Palestine rally on October 22 was also organised by non-governmental organisation MyCARE and saw the attendance of about 10,000 participants. – November 11, 2023
