KUALA LUMPUR – Another mall – this time, the Johor Bahru City Square Mall – was forced to close early due to a power outage.

In a Facebook post, the mall’s management announced its early closure at 8pm tonight.

“We are working with Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) to determine the cause of the outage.

“Any inconvenience caused is much regretted,” it said.

It also requested the public refer to its Facebook page for updates.

TNB, in an earlier update on X, said it was investigating the cause of the power outage and was working with the management of the City Square Mall to resolve the blackout.

Shortly after 11pm, TNB in a fresh update, said work to restore electricity supply to the Johor Bahru mall had started, as the fault that caused the blackout had been identified.

“The estimated time for power to be restored will be announced once further assessment is done.”

Earlier today, the Putrajaya IOI City Mall was plunged into darkness, forcing its early closure on a public holiday when people were there shopping ahead of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festival.

The mall had announced that it expected power to resume between 1pm and 5pm today but TNB took longer than expected.

At about 9pm, TNB said work to restore power to the mall was almost complete.

“As of 9pm tonight, we have completed 80% of restoration work (to IOI City Mall Putrajaya),” it said on X. – March 28, 2024
