KUALA LUMPUR – Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) will strive to fulfil all requirements and requests for electricity supply in Sabah and Labuan for the upcoming Aidilfitri festivities in a few days.
This is after its electrical cables were destroyed in a fire at the SESB main store in Manggatal last Thursday.
In a statement today, its chief executive officer Mohd Yaakob Jaafar said the incident has affected SESB’s financial capacity to meet the growing demand for electricity supply.
However, efforts are underway to promptly procure the necessary cables, though this process is expected to take some time, he added.
SESB also requested that customers who have applied for electricity supply be patient until the new cable is provided.
Yaakob also said the incident has resulted in numerous stocks of new electrical cables being burned, damaged, and rendered unusable.
“The burned electrical cables, which are a major component in the supply of electricity in the state, were supposed to be distributed to SESB’s other district stores soon.
Last week, SESB reported losing nearly RM40 million worth of electrical cable in the fire.
Its chairman, Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau, said the fire destroyed most of the reel cables stored at the facility that were supposed to be installed throughout the state, mostly to connect supply to consumers’ homes. – April 8, 2024
