KUALA LUMPUR – The 10 individuals who were arrested on suspicion of being linked with an Israeli man charged with the possession of firearms last month will be released on police bail next week.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said three foreigners from the group will be surrendered to the Immigration Department for further action.
“They will be released before their remands end on May 14 and 15.
“However, they can still be summoned again to aid investigations,” Rusdi told reporters after a Sentul district police headquarters Aidilfitri event.
On April 30, he said police would hold discussions with the attorney-general to determine further action against the 10 individuals, who were detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) in connection with an Israeli man who bought weapons after arriving in Malaysia.
The three non-citizens include two Turkish nationals and one from Georgia. One of the Turkish nationals also holds a United States and Polish passport.
On April 11, an Israeli national who holds a French passport pleaded not guilty in the sessions court here to two charges of possessing six firearms and 158 rounds of ammunition at a hotel in the city centre.
Shalom Avitan, 38, claimed trial to one charge under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 for ammunition possession and a second charge under Section 7(1) of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 for firearms trafficking.
Bail was not granted by sessions court judge Tasnim Abu Bakar, who set May 21 for the next case mention.
Before that, on April 8, an unemployed married couple pleaded not guilty at the Klang sessions court for illegally possessing a CZ75 P-01 CAL.9 Luger gun, in a case linked with the Israeli man.
Sharifah Faraha Syed Husin, 41, and her husband Abdul Azim Mohd Yasin, 43, were charged under the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act before judge Sharifah Hascindie Syed Omar.
The woman was accused of illegally possessing the gun while her husband was accused of being with his wife, putting him in the circumstances of having knowledge of his wife’s illegal gun possession. – May 11, 2024
