KUALA LUMPUR – Two more individuals were the third and fourth persons charged with abetment in the May 9 petrol bomb attack on an entertainment centre in Jalan Yap Kwan Seng.
Muhammad Hasan Abd Hamid, 29, and Muhamad Nur Kholis Muhamad Syaikhudin, 23, claimed trial before sessions court judge Hamidah Mohamed Deril.
The duo was charged with abetting an individual – who remains at large – to commit mischief by fire on May 9, around 2.17am.
They were accused of throwing four bottles that were lit with fire at the front door of the KGF KL Club.
The charge is under Section 109 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 435 of the same code, they face penalties of a maximum 14 years in jail and fine if convicted.
The court today ordered RM5,000 bail on each accused with additional conditions as suggested by the prosecution. Judge Hamidah also fixed June 21 for the case mention.
Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Muhairi Mohamed Noh had earlier asked the court for RM15,000 bail on each of the accused, as well as additional conditions that the duo report themselves to the nearest police station once a month.
However, lawyer M.V. Yoges who represented both accused, pleaded for a lower amount of bail, with no objection to the additional condition.
“Muhammad Hasan had just gotten a job as a deliveryman. He is looking after his asthmatic wife and their six kids, with the youngest being three years old while the eldest is 15 years old. He is also caring for his mother-in-law.
“Meanwhile, Muhamad Nur Kholis has gout, and a fractured shoulder and leg. He cannot not do heavy physical activity, and he is only working as a car-towing assistant. He also has parents to look after,” said the lawyer during mitigation.
The first two individuals who were charge with abetment in the same crime were M. Preemraj and Nor Rahman Sadik, both aged 25, who claimed trial before the same judge yesterday.
Police have ruled out links with secret societies in the attack, and believe it is over a business misunderstanding. – May 17, 2024
