KUALA LUMPUR — DAP Youth chief Woo Kah Leong was questioned by police today over a social media post from April 10 that featured a caricature of Perak opposition leader Razman Zakaria of PAS dressed as a clown.
His lawyer, DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) member Syahredzan Johan, said two officers from the Gerik District Police Headquarters (IPD Gerik) recorded Woo’s statement during a 30-minute session at his office.
“We were informed that a police report had been lodged and that the matter is being investigated by IPD Gerik. A statement has been taken.
“Questions were asked and Kah Leong has responded. We have extended our full cooperation in this investigation,” Syahredzan told reporters at a press conference in Ipoh today, as quoted by Utusan Malaysia.
Syahredzan said they have not been informed who filed the report or the date it was lodged.
Woo, who is the Pasir Bedamar assemblyman, was also present at the press conference.
He was recently appointed as the new Pakatan Harapan (PH) Youth chief, and also serves as the Perak executive councillor for Domestic Trade, Consumer Affairs and New Villages.
Syahredzan added that police had seized Woo’s iPhone and SIM card to assist in the investigation, noting that Woo had cooperated fully throughout the process.
Acting Gerik District Police Chief Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Firdaus Abdullah later confirmed that Woo’s statement had been recorded, describing it as a standard procedure.
Commenting on the matter, Woo said political satire remains one of the most peaceful forms of criticism in a democratic society.
“I defend everyone’s right to criticise me. I’m a politician, so I must allow others to attack and criticise me.
“But at the same time, I also have the right to respond with arguments. I will not bow down or remain silent.
“I am committed to defending freedom of speech, freedom to create and freedom of expression,” he said. – June 2, 2025
