KUALA LUMPUR – Authorities arrested three men after they discovered the carcass of a tiger, believed to have been illegally hunted, inside a vehicle in Felda Tenggaroh.
Bukit Aman Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) announced on its official Facebook page that the joint operation with the Johor Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) was launched following a tip-off from the public.
FRU commander SAC Rosli Md Yusof said that a search of a Perodua Alza uncovered the dead tiger (Panthera Tigris Jacksoni), along with other confiscated items, Bernama reported.
“The tiger is an invaluable national treasure. Its loss, caused by human greed, is a betrayal of our heritage,” he said.
“FRU’s intelligence will remain at the forefront, working alongside our partner agencies to protect the nation’s wildlife. We are committed to tackling illegal hunting without compromise, to preserve nature for future generations.”
During the operation, authorities seized the dead tiger, the Perodua Alza, and four mobile phones, with a combined estimated value of RM294,007.
Initial investigations revealed that the tiger had sustained severe injuries, likely from a trap, and had six gunshot wounds to its head, which were the cause of death.
The three suspects, aged between 28 and 49, are currently in remand to assist with further investigations under Section 70 of the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 (Act 716) for possession of wildlife without a special permit.
Johor Perhilitan Director Aminuddin Jamin confirmed to Bernama that investigations are ongoing.
“Our officers are conducting a thorough investigation and completing the case file,” he said. – September 16, 2025
