KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysian musician DVR3N (Darren Teh), the lead singer of the pop-punk band An Honest Mistake, has unveiled his most deeply personal project to date — a five-track instrumental EP titled ‘Songs For My Father’.
The release comes one year after the passing of his father, making it both a tribute and a cathartic reflection on loss, love, and family.
Born out of grief and love, the EP reflects Darren’s emotional journey through a year of mourning.
“Throughout the writing process, all I could think of was him,” Darren shared in a press release.
“The love, the sacrifice, the commitment to family—everything he instilled in us as men. I couldn’t put it into words, so I let the music flow from the heart.”
Each track serves as a musical snapshot of their relationship — from tender moments to memories that have shaped Darren’s life.
But the most poignant piece on the EP is IGUESSTHISISHOWHEAVENSOUNDSLIKE, a deeply moving composition built around actual voice notes Darren’s father recorded while in hospital.
“As I pieced the voice notes together, I just started crying,” Darren admits.
“Hearing his voice again felt like he was still here. Every time I listen to the track, I feel like he’s telling me that everything is fine, that everything is ‘all good’, wherever he may be now.”
The EP is a rich tapestry of ambient textures, stirring melodies, and intimate fragments of the past.
Through its soulful arrangements, ‘Songs For My Father’ immortalises a father’s enduring love and a son’s heartfelt tribute, inviting listeners to reflect on the power of family, memory, and the healing embrace of music.
‘Songs For My Father’ is now available on all major streaming platforms, offering a sonic space for those grappling with loss and a chance to honour the love we carry with us long after our loved ones are gone. – October 31, 2025
