KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has refuted any connection to Jeffrey Epstein, citing emails referenced in the United States Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Epstein Files as proof.
In a lighthearted Facebook post, Anwar dismissed the allegations, even using emojis to emphasise his point.
“Only today did I find out that some external parties wanted to meet and even ‘quoted’ my name in an email related to the Epstein case 😅😅 Alhamdulillah, it’s been many years, as mentioned in the email, and I have no connection with any party involved in those emails, especially Epstein 🤢🤢 Ok, I’m going to continue my stroll in Johor Bahru #DoneExplain,” he wrote.
This statement followed demands from Armada Bersatu Malaysia for an immediate explanation from the Prime Minister regarding any potential interactions with Epstein or his associates, after revelations in DOJ documents.
Na’im Brundage, the Director of Communications and New Media for Armada Bersatu Malaysia, stated that clarification was necessary given the allegations, which indicated that Anwar’s position as Prime Minister was seen as a lucrative opportunity for foreign financial institutions.
“Sebagai Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim must provide a full explanation to protect the honour and integrity of the country’s leadership institutions,” Na’im said in a statement.
He highlighted that the DOJ files were serious, with one particular document, referenced under code EFTA00929772, allegedly detailing talks about arranging a private meeting between Epstein and Anwar in 2012. The document also referred to an associate of Epstein describing Anwar’s potential premiership as a financial boon for American banking giant J.P. Morgan.
Na’im called for transparency on the matter, emphasising the need for the Prime Minister to address the allegations openly to protect public trust in the nation’s leadership.
Meanwhile, Anwar used the Federal Territory Day and Thaipusam public holidays for an unannounced inspection of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad’s (KTMB) Electric Train Service 3 (ETS3) from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru.
The Prime Minister posted on Facebook that he used the time to meet with passengers aboard the train, receiving positive feedback about the comfort and efficiency of the service. “Alhamdulillah, the response has been very encouraging, especially regarding comfort levels and the more organised, smoother travel experience,” he shared. He reiterated the government’s commitment to improving public services.
Later, Anwar visited Zoo Johor, where he spent time with his family and engaged with visitors. The zoo, recently renovated, has seen significant improvements, attracting over 1.2 million visitors in the past 14 months. Johor Housing and Local Government Committee Chairman, Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor, expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister’s surprise visit, which included a review of the zoo’s ongoing developments.
“Alhamdulillah, he said the zoo looks good now. It used to be a bit dirty before the improvements,” Jafni remarked. – February 1, 2026
