KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested three more individuals in connection with investigations stemming from the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Tabung Haji, over the alleged misappropriation of about RM450,000 involving Notice of Penalty (NOP) charges.

The three suspects – a deputy general manager for construction, an occupational safety and health manager, and a project director of a property company owned by a statutory body – were remanded for five days until Aug 9 after Magistrate Ezrene Zakariah granted MACC’s application at the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court today.

According to a MACC source, all three were arrested at the commission’s headquarters at about 6pm yesterday.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects allegedly conspired to commit the offences between 2017 and 2019.

“The remand order follows investigations by a special task force established to review and examine the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on Tabung Haji, which were made public through the official portal of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) on July 29,” the source said.

MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman confirmed the arrests, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

The latest arrests come after MACC detained a former chief executive officer and a former chief financial officer of a company owned by a statutory body over the RCI findings.

The two men, aged 60 and 68, are being investigated for allegedly abusing their positions in the procurement process and the acquisition of shares in two plantation companies worth RM370 million.

The RCI was established to examine governance, financial management and investment transactions involving Tabung Haji between 2014 and 2020.

Its report recommended further investigations by enforcement agencies, including MACC, into possible abuse of power, misappropriation of funds and procedural breaches that may have caused losses to deposits entrusted by Malaysia’s Muslim community. – August 5, 2026
