KUALA LUMPUR — Umno veteran Tan Sri Megat Najmuddin Megat Khas died today, aged 81.
His passing was announced in various tributes by those who knew him on social media, while New Straits Times said it confirmed his death with a source close to his family.
According to the NST, the former Kelana Jaya MP had been ill for some time.
Megat Najmuddin was a Member of Parliament from 1986 to 1995, and was also an Umno disciplinary committee member from 2002 to 2009.
Other positions in Umno he had served in were as Petaling Jaya division chief and as Subang permanent chairman.
As a corporate figure, he was a non-executive independent director of Petronas, chairman of MajuPerak Holdings Bhd, and chairman of Sime Darby Plantation Bhd in 2020.
In politics, he joined Bersatu after it was formed, and headed the party’s disciplinary board in 2018.
Megat Najmuddin was also an avid rugby player, and served as president of the Combined Old Boys Rugby Association (Cobra).
The Cobra Rugby Club on Instagram paid him tribute, calling him “a pillar of our Club”.
“He was always present, always supportive, and unwavering in his passion and commitment in everything he did.
“He will be remembered not only as a leader, but also as a mentor, a friend, and a true ambassador of the Cobra spirit.” – December 13, 2025
