KUALA LUMPUR – The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has successfully extradited another member of the notorious ‘Captain Praba’ gang from Thailand, with the suspect arriving in Malaysia last night.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail confirmed that the man, believed to be in his 30s, was flown into the country around 10:30 pm, following close collaboration between the PDRM and Thai authorities, Bernama reported.
“The suspect will be presented in court today to obtain a remand order for further investigation,” Khalid said.
He added that efforts to locate the remaining 15 members of the group, who are believed to still be at large, are ongoing.
“Currently, the police are actively hunting for these individuals,” he stated during a media briefing at PDRM’s ‘Thaneer Panthal’ community policing programme held at the Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple in Batu Caves.
With the latest extradition, the number of ‘Captain Praba’ gang members arrested now stands at 17. Previously, PDRM successfully brought back three suspected gang members from Mumbai, India.
Mohd Khalid acknowledged that tracking down suspects who flee abroad presents unique challenges, as gang members often attempt to escape swiftly once police action begins.
“Through international cooperation and intelligence exchange with other countries, authorities contact us for follow-up actions as soon as a suspect is located,” he explained.
The ‘Captain Praba’ gang is known for its involvement in violent crimes and armed robberies. Authorities consider it one of the most wanted criminal groups, primarily due to its use of firearms and its aggressive tactics towards both victims and law enforcement during robberies.
PDRM launched a special operation to dismantle the gang’s network after an alarming rise in criminal activities, including an attempt on a police officer’s life during a raid. – February 1, 2026
