Assault at military camp reclassified as murder corporal’s following death

Investigation ramps up after soldier dies from injuries sustained during incident at Bentong camp

KUALA LUMPUR — Police have reclassified a case involving an armed forces corporal who allegedly assaulted seven fellow soldiers at the 25th Battalion Royal Malay Regiment camp in Bentong on March 31, after one of the victims succumbed to his injuries.

Bentong police chief Supt Zaiham Mohd Kahar confirmed that the victim, identified as 24-year-old Amirul Raziq Rosafindi in previous reports, was pronounced dead at 9.34 am today, Bernama reported.

“The investigation is now being conducted under Section 302 of the Penal Code,” he said in a statement.

He added that the investigation paper, initially opened under Section 325 of the Penal Code, has been updated to reflect the reclassification. An application for a post-mortem has been submitted to establish the cause of death.

“Police will also review all statements taken earlier and, if necessary, record further witness statements to assist with the investigation,” Zaiham said.

Earlier, on April 6, the media reported that the accused, 37-year-old Sukry Tasu, pleaded not guilty in the Bentong Magistrate’s Court to seven charges of injuring fellow soldiers last month.

He entered his plea before Magistrate Muhammad Aiman Azahan.

For the first charge, Sukry is accused of causing grievous injury to 24-year-old Muhammad Amirul Raziq Rosafindi at the weapons store of C Company, 25th Battalion Royal Malay Regiment camp in Bentong around 8.30 am on March 30, 2026.

The subsequent charges involve six other soldiers, namely Mohammad Atiqillah Taugek Rashidi, 21; Muhammad Syakirin Yaacob, 20; Muhammad Azman Shah Ismail, 22; Nik Amir Zaqwan Nik Asrizal, 19; Muhammad Irfan Aiman Mohd Tajudin, 19; and Muhamad Danial Asraf Azizan, 22, who were allegedly injured at the same time and location. – April 11, 2026
