KUALA LUMPUR — The Education Ministry (MOE) is updating its Safe School Management Guidelines to address contemporary challenges and better safeguard students and school staff.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the initiative is being carried out through the Education Institution Safety Reform Committee, which includes representatives from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Bernama reported.
“Various non-governmental representatives and community representatives are also a part of the committee to ensure that issues related to school safety are given attention,” she said at the launch of the national-level MyLesen B2 Sekolah (MyB2S) 2026 programme in Johor Bahru today.
Also in attendance were Transport Minister Anthony Loke and Road Transport Department (JPJ) director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli.
The move follows recent tragic incidents. On April 12, a first-year student was killed after being struck by a car in front of the girls’ surau at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tanjong Mas in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.
In Johor, a second-year female student died after being hit by a van outside the main gate of Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Maimon, Parit Sulong in Batu Pahat on May 5.
Fadhlina said all principals and school administrators have been instructed to enforce safety measures rigorously and consistently.
“There is no compromise on student safety issues and all parties must play a role in ensuring that the school environment is always safe,” she said.
The minister added that current safety programmes and initiatives are part of follow-up actions from the committee’s thorough review of student safety matters.
She also highlighted the MyLesen B2 and MyB2S programmes, designed to ensure students riding motorcycles to school hold valid licences.
Through the JPJ, the Transport Ministry aims for 60,000 students to benefit from the MyB2S 2026 initiative, with an estimated allocation of RM18.5 million. – May 11, 2026
