KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to deliver his policy speech today at the PKR National Congress 2026, where he will outline the party’s strategic agenda and future direction.

The two-day national assembly, themed “Memugar Reformasi, Membina Madani” (Revitalising Reformasi, Building Madani), gathers thousands of delegates and leaders nationwide to realign the party’s core reform principles against Malaysia’s evolving political backdrop.

Held in Melaka, the main congress follows yesterday’s youth (Angkatan Muda Keadilan) and women’s (Wanita PKR) wing conferences, both officiated by party deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar.

Around 2,500 delegates alongside more than 3,000 observers are slated to attend the main event.

Global eyes and key debates

Highlighting the event’s weight, diplomatic representatives from major global powers—including the United States, China, Japan, and Australia—are in attendance, together with key local political figures.

The debate floor will see 16 speakers representing various states and party wings tackling pressing national matters, with a heavy focus on the economy, education, and political stability.

According to party leadership, the congress serves to solidify internal unity while renewing PKR’s core commitment to integrity, social justice, and the welfare of marginalized communities.

Honouring sacrifices and community outreach

As part of the proceedings, five families will be presented with the Bill Kayong Award in honour of late members who demonstrated unwavering dedication to the party’s cause.

Beyond politics, the congress grounds are doubling as a public service hub. Key government agencies—including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Immigration Department, National Registration Department (JPN), and Registrar of Societies (ROS)—have set up informational counters for delegates and visitors.

The public can also visit the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry’s ‘Karnival Rahmah Mega’, held on-site in conjunction with the gathering.

Anwar is scheduled to deliver his winding-up speech tomorrow to officially conclude the congress. – August 15, 2026
