KUALA LUMPUR – A cryptic Facebook post reading simply “Alhamdulillah” by Umno Secretary-General Datuk Seri Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki this morning has sparked widespread speculation following the conclusion of the Federal Territories Pardons Board meeting.
The single-word post triggered an immediate flood of comments, with supporters leaving expressions of gratitude, references to Friday blessings, and chants of “Daulat Tuanku” Public interest remains high, with many speculating whether the post signals a favorable outcome regarding former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s clemency application.
The board convened early Friday to deliberate on Najib’s petition—reported to be the sole item on today’s agenda—following a deferral during its previous sitting last week.
Adding to the tension, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh was seen departing Istana Negara at 9.43am in a Toyota Vellfire, roughly two hours after her arrival at 7.48am. Yeoh passed the press core waiting at Gate 2 without issuing a statement.
Meanwhile, official vehicles believed to be carrying Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar had yet to be seen exiting the palace grounds as of mid-morning.
The ongoing session follows the 63rd Federal Territories Pardons Board meeting on September 11, chaired by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, where consideration of Najib’s application for his SRC International Sdn Bhd conviction was officially postponed.
Najib was originally convicted in July 2020 for misappropriating RM42 million in SRC International funds, receiving a 12-year jail sentence and an RM210 million fine, which was upheld by the Federal Court in August 2022.
On February 2, 2024, the Pardons Board Secretariat announced a 50 percent reduction of his prison term to six years and a fine reduction to RM50 million. – September 18, 2026
