PAS’ Fadhli called in to give statement on Save Malaysia rally

The PAS Youth chief aimed criticism at the ‘other’ side while agreeing to cooperate with the authorities

KUALA LUMPUR – PAS Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari has been summoned by the police to give his statement today on the Save Malaysia gathering, which took place on September 16.

In a brief statement, he took a swipe at the “other” side, saying they should continue lodging reports and putting pressure while they are still in government.

“I will cooperate, and the ‘other’ side can continue putting pressure. Just in case they find themselves as the opposition again, and lose the opportunity to pile on the pressure.”

He added that this is the third time this month that he has been called in to provide statements to the police.

“Alhamdulillah, the police are very professional in carrying out their duties. However, since there are reports lodged, investigations need to be done.”

Previously, Fadhli and Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal were criticised for not joining the gathering even though they were seen as leaders of the event.

Last week, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said investigation papers involving statements from 29 individuals linked with the gathering would be submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) on September 22.

On September 16, around 850 individuals attended a rally organised by PN Youth and other political parties and non-governmental organisations to voice their dissatisfaction over the conditional discharge granted to Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The rally included a procession to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters, where the organising committee lodged a police report against the deputy prime minister’s discharge not amounting to an acquittal in his corruption trial.

Among those previously summoned by the police for investigations into the rally were Muafakat Nasional supreme council member Datuk Tun Faisal and Bersatu’s Taman Medan assemblyman Dr Afif Bahardin.

Other rally attendees included Pejuang information chief Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali and his PAS Youth counterpart Nadzir Helmi. – September 26, 2023
